The Image Mover is a computer controlled opto-mechanical output device available as a option for the complete line of laser video projectors from Laser Video Projection. Complete and accurately repeatable mobility of the projected video images is available with four independent axis of movement by the Image Mover. The four axis are:
PAN
This axis moves the image left or right. The movement is provided by a high resolution stepping motor drive system and is capable of a top speed of 100 degrees per second of image movement in either direction. Systems are available with a maximum available pan image movement of either 180 degrees or a full 360 degrees.
TILT
The tilt axis allows movement of the video image either up or down and is also controlled by a high resolution stepping motor drive system. Tilt provides image movement of up to 15 degrees below horizontal and up to 30 degrees above horizontal.
SPIN
Spin is provided to rotate the image about its center, either clockwise or counter-clockwise. As an image is being panned, the spin function is required to de-rotate the image allowing perfectly level image panning movements. In addition, the spin is available independently of Pan, allowing any orientation of the image including continuous 360 degree spinning. The stepping motor system is capable of a maximum image movement of over 500 degrees per second.
ZOOM
Zoom is used to change the image size. Unlike other projection systems, with laser video, the zoom changes only image size and does not require changes in convergence or focus. Different zoom lenses are available depending on the required projection distances and required image sizes. Throw ratios are available from 1:1 to over 30:1 (projection distance: image width.)
As can be seen, the Image Mover allows video images to be manipulated in real-time in ways never before available. Images can be moved almost anywhere within a venue and projected on any shaped screen at any angle to the projector. All this without any change in focus or convergence, because the video images are converged inside the projector, not on the screen; and laser video inherently offers a nearly infinite depth of focus.
Movements are controlled by a computer system allowing entire shows to be programmed and the movements precisely repeated, locking to SMPTE time code, video sync or triggered by a start pulse and timed internally. All four movements can be operated individually or simultaneously, even changing speeds on-the-fly. Several computer control systems are available dependent on the show effects required and custom software configuration is available for unusual show requirements.
In its simplest utilization, the Image Mover can greatly simplify the setup of a large screen projected image in any venue. With the Image Mover, projection distances are not very critical and the projector can be set up in a room, the image moved to the proper location and zoomed to fit the screen.
In the ultimate, the Image Mover can become the entertainment centerpiece, providing an incredibly unique show through the extensive use of the computer control combined with projecting onto multiple screens as well as unusually shaped targets such as spheres, columns and curves. Multiple screens at different distances can also be projected on simultaneously with one large image.
